Millstream Cottage is an old watermill located near to the village of St Wenn on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. Over the years the barn has been extended and then converted into a dwelling in the 1990s.
White Design was appointed to help restore the barn to its formal glory, while also extending the accommodation to include further living spaces and a master bedroom. At the same time a self contained one-bedroom annexe was designed to house visiting family members.
The extension incorporates the existing waterwheel within a new double height dining and living space which open out onto a decked area fronting the private lake. The master bedroom has far reaching views over the lake and to Bodmin Moor to the north. Local stone to match the existing building is proposed.
The annexe uses a combination of stone, slate and timber cladding in a highly energy efficient yet low-key single storey building.
