LoveBristol commissioned WDA to undertake a master plan and feasibility study for a significant site in Stokes Croft. The brief required working with the LoveBristol steering group to prepare a development strategy to be used as the architectural element of an outline business case to redevelop the site.
Westmoreland House has been derelict for over 20 years despite its location on a main gateway route into the centre of Bristol along the A38 and the inclusion of the Carriage Works a Grade 2* Listed building on the site.
LoveBristol propose to redevelop the site using a mixture of community, commercial and residential uses intended to revitalise this corner of Stokes Croft and provide a community hub for cultural activities.
The site planning is arranged in a courtyard formation surrounding the ‘village green’ at the heart of the site. A second communal area to the rear of the existing Carriage Works building will be a flexible space for market, cafe and retail uses.
The group intend to support local initiatives and have invited adjacent owners to collaborate in the delivery of the proposals.
