Artichoke Design Ltd design, make and install fine quality bespoke kitchens and fitted furniture. They approached White Design in 2011 to assist in the development of their new headquarters - the refurbishment of an existing industrial unit and the new office extension with a design brief to 'reflect the ethos of Artichoke Design through expressing the creative excellence of the company, and be very efficient in space planning and energy use'.
Phase 1 of the project was the investigation into low carbon technologies in the re-cladding of the existing industrial unit. Outputs ranged from industry available cladding systems to a bespoke timber panel cassette system developed with a consultant structural engineer.
Phase 2 developed internal layout options based on workflow; re-using internal mezzanines, and the re-design of the existing office building into a larger timber clad super insulated front of house reception, meeting spaces and design studio based on occupier performance demands and energy efficient solutions.
The design studies were thorough and clear giving the client enough confidence to take forward the proposals onto the next stages alone.
