White Design were invited to enter a competition by the Scouting Association to create a dedicated Heritage and Learning Centre to welcome visitors from all around the world. The New Centre was to be developed at Gilwell Park - the UK Scouting Head Quarters and an Activity, Conference and Event Centre thought of as the spiritual home of Scouting.
The brief was to redevelop the existing Camp Square area and replace the existing buildings with new energy efficient and sustainable buildings,. The concept was to create a ‘sense of place’ and to reflect Scouting traditions and ethos. Incorporated into the design was to be an existing activity building and a Grade 2 Listed Farm Building.
The Scope of the Design was to create low energy and low maintenance buildings to a BREEAM very good or above to include; a central meeting area and focal point, Heritage Centre, Gallery, Secure storage, Retail Space and a café.
