In 2005 White Design began working with West Lothian Council and Ecosse Regeneration to design the central building for the Cowhill Business Park Development at Polkemmet, located near the M8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The 54 hectare development, known as "Heartlands", is on the site of a former open cast mining operation and involves the construction of a new transport interchange and associated infrastructure, with the wider site incorporating housing and golf courses.
Now having been granted planning permission, the building awaits completion of the motorway junction and new infrastructure before construction begins. As the very first building on the business park, it is anticipated that White Design's project will become a showcase for sustainable construction and development, setting the standard for future offices to follow, as well as creating significant socio-economic benefits locally and across central Scotland.
