The NWCP located to the north-east of Bristol city centre, is a pioneering development by Bristol Zoo Gardens. It aims to be a world class visitor attraction that combines an exciting, interactive experience with the more serious messages of conservation and sustainability. As a conservation-led wildlife park, it will champion and support national and international conservation, demonstrate and encourage widespread sustainability and actively engage visitors in a wide range of animal and plant conservation projects.
The architecture of the park is designed to be ‘submissive’ to the animals and the wildlife on display, allowing a degree of flexibility according to the animals’ changing needs. NWCP is the first zoo in the world to be designed, constructed and operated in a wholly sustainable way, from power generation and waste management to local procurement and carbon sequestration.
