The design of the new sixth form centre is focused on the teaching spaces required for the facility in combination with the project context. This includes the integration of the buildings within the school site and landscape with relevance to the significant gateway location into Bath, and the connection in identity between the two recently connected schools of St. Gregory’s Catholic College and St. Marks C of E Secondary School.
Phase 1 of the sixth form centre provides the additional accommodation needed for 250 students. This includes a central learning resource centre, six classrooms, two laboratories, and social gathering spaces. Enhanced access between the new building and existing site is achieved though an integrated masterplan that compliments the building design and site ecology.
Central to Phase 2, which is now underway, will be a multi-functional ‘gathering space’. This extra space will be used for additional requirements of the sixth form including drama and performing arts, extra assemblies, exams, events and conferences.
