White Design was asked by Footprint Building Ltd to provide low-carbon consultancy on the refurbishment of two Grade II listed Victorian properties in Clifton, Bristol. The buildings were in a poor state of repair, and had been adjoined and institutionalised having been previously used as a health clinic.
The proposals returned the buildings back into two residential properties with a high environmental and finishes specification. A complete new heating and ventilation strategy adopting Passivhaus principles is incorporated along with new wiring and lighting throughout. The result is a whole-house retrofit and refurbishment resulting in an 80% reduction in predicted CO2 emissions and a 75% reduction in predicted energy use.
