Commissioned by The Countryside Council for Wales and the City and County of Swansea the design guide was co authored by White Design Associates (WDA) and Nathan Lichfield and Partners in 2010-2011. WDA undertook sections of the guide providing an overview of the sustainable design principles, innovative architecture examples, landscape character assessments and landscape detailing.
A series of consultation workshops gathered comments and ideas from officers of the City and County of Swansea, Councillors and Community Councillors, the Countryside Council for Wales, local architects, developers and interested parties. The document sets out guidance to help conserve, enhance and inspire both the natural and built environment of Gower and can be used as a practical design tool for everyone involved in the design and development process.
We hope property owners, developers, planners and design professionals will find the Guide an important resource in ensuring that all future development respects the distinctive character of Gower. The Guide has been adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) providing finer detail on the design- related policies set out in the City and County of Swansea Unitary Development Plan [UDP] November 2008, to access the guide please us the link below;
