As part of Bristol’s Capital Schools Programme, the first phase was successfully completed in time for the start of term. Reflecting the form and rhythm of the existing building, the single class addition to the end of the existing western wing acknowledges its surroundings whilst expressing itself as a contemporary addition.
It’s location assists the internal organisation of the school’s year groups by completing the wing with four classes; and is the first stage towards Glenfrome Primary becoming a two form entry. Built from Modcell,a prefabricated straw panel system, the building was erected and completed within the summer holidays - a tight 6 week programme. The design and installation was filmed by ITV and The Technology Strategy Board [TSB] as part of a TSB funded research project called ‘Modern Flying Factories’; exploring innovative near site, off site manufacture of prefab construction.
“Class 7 is wonderful. Loving the feature wall ( I had forgotten we were having it), and it just all looks so smart! Can't wait to have 6 more - it's all so worth while. Thank you for all you've done.” Bursar- Glenfrome Primary School.
Bristol Phase 2 of the development has now started on site, comprising of a further six classrooms over two floors, this will be built to the front of the existing school for occupation in September 2014. This will transform the experience and connection of the visitor, staff and pupils with the school upon arrival to the site.
