White Design delighted to be working with Coexist on their vision for Hamilton House

—June 21, 2017

White Design is delighted to have worked with coexist on the recent bid to buy Hamilton House from owners Connolly and Callaghan who gave notice to remove the Community Asset Lock and sell the building at the end of 2016.

Hamilton House has been White Design’s home for the last two and a half years, we joined an extraordinarily diverse group of people and organisations who also call Hamilton House their home. The ground floor is home to Canteen providing a well loved bar serving local Bristol beers and the most delicious affordable and locally sourced food. Hamilton House is home to over 500 creative individuals and companies. These include, wellbeing studios, dance studios, events space, a community kitchen, bike workshops, artists studios and co-working areas.

Coexist’s bid to acquire the property was submitted in May and incorporates designs for a courtyard multi use events space with community, rooftop garden, a new yoga studio fronting city road and an extraordinary eco-hostel on the roof of the building.

The design for the eco hostel uses prefabricated Modcell’s TAM units and would be the UK’s first rooftop eco-hostel, providing a range of accommodation for people visiting the city and those attending events at Hamilton House.

The hostels will provide 100 beds over a mix of private rooms and dormitory as well as a communal kitchen, roof garden and new co-operatively owned Solar panels.

The money generated by the hostel will secure the investment needed to create a new rooftop garden and fund other improvements to Hamilton House.
